A tree fell on the boat during the ice storm of 2009 and caused substantial damage to the boat. I’m not sure what the correct name is for the area that is damaged but I think it is the coaming?
I will be grinding and applying fiberglass and painting the area.
I was looking for a new trailer for another boat that I am working on. That is how these things seem to start for me. One thing leads to another and another. The new/used trailer had a damaged boat on it and naturally I bought the whole package.
The boat had been hit by a tree in the december 2008 ice storm and had no attention since by the looks. the interior was frozen and full of leaves, ice and snow.
I took her home and shoehorned her into the garage and fired up the wood stove to thaw things out.
There was a lot of thawing and dripping, about 15 gallons of dripping, then I started to asses the damage and condition of the boat. I am still deciding on the fate of the boat. I could scrap the boat and keep the motor and trailer and still have gotten a smoking deal but salvaging the boat would be a bonus.
Upon exploration it became obvious that the plywood backing used for the cushions and seats were completely rotted.
At this point I realize that it will not be cost effective to put the boat back to original condition and instead I need to determine whether it is worthwhile to strip the boat down, make necessary repairs and use it as a utility boat up in Casco Bay. No carpet and fancy cushions but good quick cheap transportation.
The carpet was all completely soaked and the glue was no longer holding it to the boat. It needed to be removed.
The expanding foam that was injected under the plywood floor is also saturated with water. This is a hugh pain in the neck because it is very difficult to dry this out.
